If you are going to try all of the hot spots in San Francisco, you are going to have to wait in line. It's unavoidable. If you want to check out the more 'obscure' foodie destinations, you're still going to have to wait. But if you want something totally off the map that doesn't guarantee a good time, you won't have to wait. You'll then realize why everyone else was waiting in line. Here's an idea: go to the city without any places in mind to eat. Walk around and eye the places with rows of people out the door. Then come back during its downtime or with a reservation.
